Microchipping
9 Answers
I purchased a puppy which was supposedly microchipped but I took her to the vet this morning and he couldn't find it, the vet says they sometimes fall out. Can anybody advise whether this is true?

I had this happen with a dog going abroad. I microchipped him myself along with three others, but when we went to check it was not there. We searched but never found it so he had to be done again. If you have got the paperwork contact the microchipper and the company and they should offer to do it again. Very occasionally they cannot be read, and sometimes if the scanner is cold they have to be warmed up to read the chip.
Many thanks for all your answers, The vet tried for ages and covered the majority of the pup's body but couldn't find it so I suggested that the scanner may be faulty so he got an unopened microchip and checked it with the scanner and it registered, so my wife rang the breeder to find out where her vet had put the microchip and the vet went all round the area where the chip was meant to be but still couldn't find it so he said he would check when the pup goes back again in 2 weeks for her second injection. He said she couldn't be microchipped a second time if it is still there hence the reason that he said he would check again in 2 weeks. He said the needle which they use for the microchip is quite big and leaves a hole in the skin, and on the very odd occasion the chip will fall out
No 1 Son's microchip is on his shoulder blade now, I ask the vets to check every time they go for their annual checks.
I thank everything I can thank that our Rover's microchip is still functioning ten years after it was inserted - it is the only way that he was identified when he was found last week, since the description the finder gave didn't quite match the description I gave to the vets and the CPL.
I've never heard of one falling out before!
