I use open office but i cant gey word doc open...then when i send the doc to someonelse they cant open it

That's what licensing is about : )
You have to enter license serial .. or may as well remove it all (or install another version)

You could try downloading a trial of the latest version, it will give you 60 days unrestricted use.

Chances are if the other person can't open your document the they have an older version of word and it's not compatible with the format you're saving as.

Try saving the document as an RTF type - pretty much anything can read that.

As for Open Office being compatible with word - in my experience it's not quite so "Simples".

I've always run into difficulties with embedded pictures with Open Office and really doesn't seem to handle them half as well as Word does.

But if you just use simple docs then yes Open Office is fine

You could try Libre Office which is now more compatiable with Microsoft Office . What PDF Reader do you have ? Foxit Reader is a good one that is free and can read almost all document file types.
