But cheap tablets have slow processors and little memory so are best avoided.
The beter tablets like the iPad or Samsung Galaxy are given the "best" reviews by Which magazine so, as you would expect, you get what you pay for.
The iPad's dont run Android of course (they run iOS) and nor do the Blackberry tablets (if you are certain you want an Android tablet).
The latest version of Android is nicknamed "Ice Cream Sandwich" and it would be nice to get one of them, but of course they are likely to be the most expensive.
To be honest I think tablets are overpriced at the moment, riding on the back of the cost of iPads. so you may be better getting a netbook (as opposed to a laptop) as you will get more for your money with a netbook.

I would seriously consider a netbook - much more power for your money and a lot more flexible too, in my opinion.
Still small and light enough to carry round but with a very good keyboard, lots of usb ports and connectivity options.
Mine is a Samsung and has a very good battery life.
I could not imagine hunching over a tablet to type on the screen.

For some time now I have been waiting on a decent pad at the right price...about three weeks ago I bought a Motorola xoom 32gb for £224...
I also have a new, fairly desirable laptop which I bought just before christmas.
Believe it or not, I have'nt touched the laptop since I got the pad.
If you just want to browse and do emails, the pad is great. It's more sociable as well, because you can sit in front of the telly and check your mail etc.
... and if the wife is downstairs I can just email her from the sofa when I want a brew..!
Once I sort the security out, the laptop may be going on eBay.Would'nt be without a pad now... !

Can I put in a word for the Blackberry Playbook.
It links to a PC by cable or bluetooth, and I only use the Blackberry 'phone browser link when on the road.
The operating system is Windows based - it has Excel, Word etc. ,and it interfaces with PC by drag & drop.
It's well worth a look, and at £169, it's a bargain.

If you are thinking about buying an Android tablet ... leave it a few more weeks as Android are about to release the UK version of their latest operating system ( Ice cream Sandwich). It,s not far away as I keep being offered a free upgrade... only problem is it's the US version
When this happens there will be plenty of tablets with the existing operating system to be had at bargain prices..!
