// Elderly people should be encouraged to go back to work and move into smaller homes, one of David Cameron’s key advisers said last night. //

http://www.telegraph....ork-and-downsize.html

// He also suggested that elderly people who did not move to smaller homes were contributing to the shortage of housing in England. //

This is an outrageous attack on our more senior citizens and represents a Government that has list touch with the people.

I will miss AOGs daily musings, but on the plus side, seeing a fully stacked shell in Aldi is also satisfying.

David Cameron should go out and get a proper job.

lol! Such small errors don't bother me - though I hate those posts with no structure, paragraphs or even basic punctuation!

What a spat earlier this morning...for something that should be the right of the individual to decide, pure and simple.

This 'encouraging to downsize' idea sounds extremely dodgy to me with regards to private housing. It's your house, and it's up to you whether you stay or move.

However, I think that there IS an argument to suggst that social housing should be assigned appropriate to the needs to the tenant.

My mum had a large council house in the 80s because there were three kids in the house. When we all left, she was downsized by the local council into what turned out to be a nicer, although smaller house in a quieter area.

There's no point in older people having four bedroomed council house if they live on their own.
And personally - I would LOVE it if some older people came back to work in certain areas...

Such as B&Q.

Ever asked one of the blank-faced teenagers in B&Q about ANYTHING? They have no idea about anything - but if you can find a part-time retiree in there, hang onto them with all your might, because they will be the people who know about which type of rawl plugs to use in plasterboard walls.
Just finding someone in B&Q is a struggle!!
ED How do you know if someone has multiple usernames: IP - e-mail or some other nefarious way the CIA perhaps
I have a card for aog if anyone wants to sign it ;)
