I bought a large bag of ericaceous compost for an acid loving plant but I no longer have it, can I use up the compost on my other potted plants and for general use on the garden?

I would.
In a word --yes. Good on the garden.
I wouldn't, it's only for cetain plants, others don't thrive on it!........
Yes spread it round and mix it in, it'll be fine.
roses, pieris, pyracantha, berberis etc will all like it
