I feel sorry for the residents involved in the Olympic sites. The nearest to me is Portland and Weymouth and there has been a lot of coverage on the local radio station, in particular. Not all residents welcome the games. Many are to be affected in getting to their place of work. The area has undergone huge changes in their road system, as one example. They will not be able able to enjoy free access during the games.

I meant the normal residents pasta who are having to deal with lots of road closures, one-way systems and detours because some roads will be for Olympic traffic only. My own colleagues are going to find it hell just getting to work. I expect the normal summer visitors will stay away. It'll be gridlock.

Appreciate that prudie, but that comes with living at a seaside town doesn't it?

I'm sure the fact of the matter is, Olympic tourists will bring a much needed boost for the town's economy, it's only for a few weeks- suck it up!

People bemoan that seaside towns are dying- this is a chance to build on that.

I feel they could have made more effort to get the locals onside, at least retaining it until today and having a 'fun day' so the children could see it, maybe organise some events to raise money for local charities too.

my mistake...they do say though that the sandcastle was funded with private money. and i don't think that LOCOG want locals onside....locals aren't posh enough.
