I have had no dial tone on my BT line for the last couple of weeks, I have ran a line check and it show online that the fault is at Number 4. Close to my property ( it looks like the pole) but an engineer will have to come out and it will cost me £130 if the fault is with me.
I have done all the checks they told me to try unplugging phone and replugging, tested line with another phone, unscrewed master socket and plugged phone into test socked, still no dial tone after doing all that.
Does it sound like the fault is with my property or outside?
Also I have heard of people still get charged even when an engineer has told them the fault is outside and told them they would not be charged the call out fee, can I ask the enginner to give me an invoice or something stating that the fault is with BT if it is found to be there fault as proof in case I am charged by them.
Thanks in advance.
I think you have to sign his worksheet which should indicate what the fault was, and what he did to fix it. If you agree with what the engineer has put there should be no problem.
I had similar problem once when BT told me it probably was a fault at our premises. I tried all the unplugging etc. A day went by and I was beginning to think I needed to ring them again when I espied an engineer climbing up a pole over the road and soon after that the dial tone was resumed. No message from them explaining that they had rectified the problem.
