Washer/Dryer
31 Answers
I am thinking of buying a washer/dryer.I don`t want to use the dryer all the time, only when I cannot hang my washing outside.
I will mainly use it to finish off nearly dry washing
So,can I use the dryer on it`s own?

The first one wasn't great but I subsequently bought Bosch washer dryers and both of them have been great - my first one lasted over 10 years and I only had an engineer at it once in all that time until it died. The second is 18 months old and is going fine, it has a faster spin than my first so it takes less time to dry. It is possible to use the dryer on it's own and so forth, like yu I prefer to hang put the laundry but when that isn't possible that's when the washer/dryer comes intop it's own
I had one in a rented cottage. Felt like it took forever to wash and dry one load. The washing cycle would finish, then I had to wait to open the door to remove some of the wet clothes as the drying capacity was smaller than the washing capacity. Then a further wait (door lock mechanism) each time I wanted to check the dryness of the clothes. Fair drove me bonkers, so it did.
'Twas only a small thing but it did irritate me somewhat. :o)
I'm going back quite a while so hopefully they have improved with time.

your right there,Vignon,An engineer told me that they deliberately don`t make them as good,so they sell more.
However,I have had my undercounter fridge and freezer for over 16 years, only had to have a repair once and that was the freezer after one month,it was the motor. It was fixed free,of course, still under warranty.
My washer is around 14 years old and my electric cooker which is about 12 years are still in fine working condition....touch wood!
All of them are Hotpoint, will never buy any other make...with such a record can you blame me.
One thing that annoys me is that one cannot insure them if under eight years old...what rubbish!!!
