Click on the 'my computer' icon on your desktop.

On the left hand menu, click on 'change a setting'.

On the new screen, on the left hand menu click on 'help and support'.

The second heading on the right hand side of this new window is 'Pick a task' and under this is the option to 'undo changes to your system with system restore' which you should click.

This takes you to a new window, where you can set how often your computer does it's thing to record settings, and also re-set your computer to the settings it had at some previous date or time. e.g. if you updated your service pack and hate it, you can go back to the day before you did it and you will no longer have service pack 2! (in my case)

It is pretty good as it will take a snapshot of your system before you install anything major. Right-click my computer > system restore is another way to reach it. BTW, you can remove xp sp2 from add/remove programs even in safe mode.
