You'd think we'd all be trying to put on a show, but no, let's go on strike shall we! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, the greatest job destroyer of them all, striking for jobs, the unions!

MoonRocker - your assumption that everyone is behind the Olympics and wants to ensure that the country is seen in a good light is naiive in the extreme.
A lot of people are more concerned about the errosion of their futures - hence the threat of strike action.
By definition, a strike is deigned to obtain a reaction from an employer, and is usually the result of the employer reufsing to or withdrawing from negotiations.
Since the purpose of a strike is to cause maximum impact for minimum time, this is precisley the right time for this union to look to strike.
There is no point in a strike that has no effect - that's why the NUS never ballot for strike action - no effect to speak of.
I am not advocating a position in the debate, merely pointing out that the idea that this is all rather 'bad form' is entirely missing the point.

Andy believe me I'm well aware of the naysayers out there whinning because their travel plans might be disrupted for a couple of weeks once in their lifetime. I'm well aware of the anti British idiots who *** off only our olympics, their goggles blinded to the fact that this olympics will do the same as all the others in the world, they seem to like the non British Olympics and *** off ours for no discernable reason. Oh it might cost a few quid, oh bl00dy dear, and leaving aside the fact that the costs are projected to be recouped, we spend 10 times the Olympics annually on work shy scum and and not a wimper do I hear from them!

be as disinterested as you like I'm tallking about the active moaners and whinners who pick on ours because it's British. This question isn't really about the Olympics itself more about the fact that we have selfish sabateurs in our midsts. There's lots of things I'm not interested in but I don't moan and decry those that are. Thankfully the governments thrown the unions a bone.

Do you really not see the connection between people who don't want to show our country in a good light, and the erosion of their (and all of our) futures? Now that would be naive ...
