Islam, the religion of peace and love.
77 Answers
I have just received three powerpoint files with graphic pictures of what happens to the arm of an 8 year old boy who pinched some food on a market, very disturbing photos of homo sexuals and how women are disfigured who refuse to marry the man that is chosen for them.
This is all done in the name of peace and love to make the offenders aware of their shortcomings, the religion of peace and love.
Should we actively reject this cruel and invasive religion in Society or should we continue as now, so we will all be subjected to this religious law in the future?

Having said that i see women around me dressed in the burkha, often veiled, which has never made an ounce of sense to me, not even when travelling through Islamic countries in the past. It seem to me to be some men's idea of what women should be, seen and not heard, irrespective of what they wear under these garments.
I have said before that i believe Britain will have Islam as it principal faith, as Christianity here is most definitely on the wane, one day.
That point of view has not changed for many years, i only have to look at the area we live in and London as a whole.
I also believe as someone else said a while back in the post that many young Muslims are not turning away from their faith but embracing it with both hands, this is going on my own experiences, of talking with and debating this very subject

Wildwood, //….many western people still believe that the persecution of non-conformist or offenders to Islam is a bit of an overstated fable."//
There’s no doubt whatsoever that the practices you outline happen – but you’re right – many do believe they are part of an overstated fable and moreover those that don’t often excuse the barbarism of mind and deed by assigning it to ‘culture’, etc, etc. I hope the apologists watch Birdie’s link – and when they do perhaps they might bear in mind that within Islam it is perfectly acceptable to lie to the infidel, so the image their Muslim acquaintances are portraying may not necessarily be accurate. In the current climate, if push came to shove, Muslims from backward nations will support Islam, not only because, despite any façade they may choose to adopt, that’s who they really are, but to do otherwise would mean death – and they know it. Islam is not the religion of peace and love – in fact it is quite the opposite.

I remember reading some years ago an article in the Readers Digest. It was quite a disturbing article and unfortunately I can't remember the whole of it. But what I do remember and has always stuck with me, was the fact that the Muslims intention was to turn the whole world into Islam. (Obviously not word for word). Looking at how Islam is spreading and that it is in fact, the fastest growing religion would seem to prove the truthfulness of that article.
During my travels abroad I find that more and more there are muslims and mosques. In some cases countries have had to make concessions, ie remove the cross from their churches, not display christmas trees, why?
So as not to insult/embarrass the muslim community.
A religion of peace and love. If it followed the Quran - yes. But does it?
No. More and more you see how their leaders twist and use the Quran to keep their adherents in line. The recent incident of the young girl from Afganistan shows that. According to the Quran women are supposed to be treated with respect, yet what do they do? To prevent the young women from receiving an education they shoot a young child in the head. Where is the love and peace?

"Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned. What sayest thou?" [The woman taken in adultery]. Jews in Christ's time had that barbaric practice because their religion, their Jewish law, required it. What happened? The law , the scripture, must be the same, but it isn't being complied with by Jews now.
The barbaric practices demanded by Sharia law, of Islam, rooted in their scripture, are not universal. The law itself is, in its principles. And regarding homosexual acts as crime is not exactly an old attitude in England; they were criminal until well into the second half of the C20. Why then the concern ,Wildwood? We have long had Jewish Courts in Britain, where Jewish law is applied, but nobody is being stoned to death! Why should a community applying its own religious law in its courts worry us, or cause us to think that that law will take over the country? So long as the community undertands, as Jews do, that such courts and such laws are subject to ours, there is no problem.

Batexia, A few points.

Islam appears to be spreading because Muslims are leaving their countries of birth in droves to settle elsewhere, and therefore they are now more in evidence than they ever were before. According to Islamic propaganda, Islam is the fastest growing religion, but it conveniently neglects to mention the millions leaving the religion.

I’ve heard of such things happening in certain communities, but not in whole countries. Do you have a link?
//A religion of peace and love. If it followed the Quran - yes. But does it? No.//
Unfortunately it does. The Koran does not promote peace and love.
//According to the Quran women are supposed to be treated with respect,//
That depends upon how you interpret the word ‘respect’. Some of the verses fall way short of anything like respect.

Just for the record, homosexual acts between consenting adults in private (apart from the crime of buggery which has always been illegal and still is, and is not confined to homosexual acts) only became illegal in 1885 to be repealed in 1967. It was the Criminal Libel Amendment Act of 1885 which allowed for the prosecution of Oscar Wilde.
jno, Islam has moved on , in that the barbaric practices associated with it, and ordained by it, are far from universal. It's rare for a woman to be stoned to death, for example. The number of known cases of women being killed for reasons of honour etc, in Pakistan,in 2011 was 943, though, of course they may have been more, in a population of 187 million. A long way to go, granted, because there shouldn't be any, but it's too easy to regard the whole religion as barbaric because of the ,comparatively few, cases. And while some countries enforce Islamic law with unjustly severe punishments, they are the exception

Here you repeat the same myth as is used to defend the Bible.
Fact is that the foundational book of any of the Abrahamic religions are not peaceful. There is no need to twist the words to incite violence because it is right there in the text. They were written explicitly to keep people in line.
The twisting of the words is done by moderates who try to portray these disgusting fascist philosophies as a worthy guide for mankind.

No way do I see these philosophies as a guide. Rape, torture, mutilation etc etc is no way to live. However, we only have to walk the streets in some of UKs largest cities and find this happening and this is not down to religion.
