jom, no it isn't, and you should ask yourself why many Britons are leaving or left. Better life, better schools, better all round. And they don't leave here potless. The countries they settle in want lots of your money, and generally a job to go to, certainly if you are of working age. Pensioners often sell their homes in UK to settle in Spain, France. You just can't fess up and say look after me.
You have to go through enormous hoops to settle in Australia, New Zealand. Friends who have did so by selling homes here and having work to go to, with enough money in the bank to not need help settling in.
It's not an option for many, unless you are a politician and your time in the sun here is gone, so you can head of to another abroad, with oodles of taxpayers money.

You are quite right, em.
As I said in response to another question a few days ago, it is misleading for the government to talk about "net" immigration (i.e. the difference between those coming and those clearing off). It paints a false picture because in effect the population is being exchanged. And as you point out, because other countries are a bit more choosy about whom they allow to settle than is the UK, those who leave almost exclusively are net contributors to their new exchequer, are self-supporting and place little or no burden on their new adopted home.
By contrast of those who come here, vast numbers are semi-skilled or have no skills at all, have little cash, have nowhere to live and perhaps, at best, are capable of a little unskilled labour. (Yes I know that a few highly skilled individuals are brought in by large companies but they are by far and away the exception).
So although the "net" immigration figures look "reasonable" (though to many people are still way too high) this exchange of population is having a huge impact on the UK's ability to provide housing and other vital services. And if anybody thinks it is "racist" to voice such an opinion then so be it.

i don't think it is racist, and i only have to look at our area to see the damage, so many are homeless, often having arrived here with little or no money. If you go to the local church there is a refugee centre attached to it, and they can't cope. The councils who have no choice but to try and house people, families especially, their children need schools. If you simply say all are welcome no matter whether the borough can support more, then all you are doing is making those who have worked, saved, paid into the system, find it hard going to rent or buy in the area they were born into they become resentful when they see others who have absolutely no ties to Britain be given help, aid. Being magnanimous has it's limitations, when services are being cut to the bone. It's not racist but economic. Have a job before coming here and a permanent residence, and no sort of handout for a full five years. Friends of mine left because they think the system stinks, and sorry but for the most part i agree.
