Are there any Scottish authors we should start reading?

(not counting Burns, who is a bit difficult to read because he uses words that are not real)

I have a feeling there's some adventure writer person, but I can't put my finger on it.

And the Just William guy ... was he Scottish.

I just thought Wasp Factory might be a bit off-putting, and the reader would lose out on further delights.

Wow ... a much bigger literary heritage than I'd remembered.

Actually, I have read The Wasp Factory.

What next for Scottish Week? Drinks? Actors and Actresses?
Not to be missed:

Ian Rankin
Alexander McCall Smith
Val McDermid
Andy McBride
Quintin Jardine
James Robertson

All of them great Scottish writers.
