I was told they don't like the smell of camphor so if you drop a moth ball into their run it will keep them away.
Our neighbour swears by a solar power ultra sonic repellant stuck in his lawn. For some reason they have stayed away from our back garden. Perhaps they got the hint when my wife bought a moleskin coat at M&S recently.

Thanks for that dilligaf, the moth balls have been bought!! We are just waiting for the rain to stop, I'll keep you posted!
As I said I havn't tried it so I hope it does work.
We have millions of the little bug***s here in Norfolk.

Let me know.
Good luck.
I was once a professional mole trapper and I can tell you now that the only way to get rid of moles is to kill them!!

There are various old wives tales and ground thumping devices and smelly things all of which really upset the mole, so all it does is move a few meters away so it cant feel it, smell it or hear it, this could mean just moving the mole around your garden to make even more mess or move it to your neighbours garden.

Buy yourself a few Duffas traps, you can get them in most garden centres, sometimes known as a tunnel trap!! you will need a poking device, as you need to locate the run between the most recent mole hills (i used a steel bar with a larger diameter point so as soon as you pushed the spike into a run, the bar felt free in the run!! This is where you need to set your first trap, never set traps in the mound, waste of time!! the trap needs to be set firm in the ground and lightly covered with soil to prevent light entering. The more traps you put down the better chance of success, don't be tempted to interfere with the traps once they are set, you can see when they are sprung, as the spring pushes up through the soil.
Just remember, if you chase the mole off of your property by using all these old wives tales etc, they will definitely come back!!! and they will just push the moth balls back out of the runs, I have seen it done so many times you wouldn't believe!! lol

I couldn't kill anything though!.........
Do not use these so called humane traps for Moles!!!

Firstly, the mole humane trap, would need to be set by an experienced trapper as the trap is about 18" long and will be very difficult for an amateur to locate a run suitable!!
Secondly, for the said trap to be humane you would need to check it every four hours, night and day!! if you fail to do this, your so called humane trap has terrified the poor mole death, literally!!!
The trap I advised, will kill a mole instantly as it crushes all its major organs, not nice but very effective!! and more humane than leaving it to suffer a heart attack!!

If you cant kill the mole with a trap, find someone that will or leave the little fella be!!!
I put the hosepipe down one of the highest holes in the garden and flooded out the run-it didn't kill the moles, though-they just moved next door instead-not my problem!

You'll be pleased to know that the moth balls worked. After the initial 'dosing', the moles just moved elsewhere in the garden, but after we perservered, they went altogether!! Yippee!
Moles will work an area where rich pickings of worms are to be had, one way of persuading them to go else-where is to carefully dig down into the hill to locate the run, insert some sprigs of gorse (approx 6 inches long), then back fill with the soil. It may take a few attempts for them to get the message, but believe me, it works, I tried it
