News Flash from the English coastal area ----

The Royal Navy intercepted three boatloads of people off the coast of Kent today.

This placed the Navy in an awkward position, as the boats were not heading to, but away from Kent towards France.

Another surprise finding was that they were loaded with British people who were all seniors of pension age.

Their claim was that they were trying to get to Calais so as to be able to return to the UK as illegal immigrants and therefore be entitled to far more benefits than they were receiving as legitimate UK pensioners.

The Navy, it is believed, gave them food, water and fuel and assisted them on their journey.

We are booking the next boat out, Let me know if you want to come.

This is true, O-G - incomers work for very low wages and long hours. People already here won't do it, they are better off on benefits.
There must be a reasons why a) the catering and hotel industry has long been largely staffed by foreigners b) when Costa coffee advertised 8 vacancies in Mapperley recently they got 1,700 applications. Their branch in Long Eaton got 900 for fewer jobs. The franchisee reported that he was getting applicants with twenty years experience in catering, people with PhDs, people with firsts, all sorts.

It could just be that jobs which British workers once refused to consider are now thought worth having.
I know that it is a joke but it does make me think of few things.

When few people blame immigrants why don't they think that most of the people in this country are immigrants. Few came here a generation ago and perhaps few others few more generations ago. When it is that an immigrant is not believed to be an immigrant anymore?

I do not want to prove to anyone as few people will never believe but just as a matter of stretching this topic. I came here as a student from Pakistan in 1991. 5 days after arriving here I started working part time along with my full time studies to patch up my rent etc, since that day I have been working and paying tax. In January 2009 I was made redundant after working over 12 years in accountancy practice as audit manager. I decided not to claim any benefit and started my own little practice working from home. Today I am still looking after my family without any help. I personally hate people (of any race or origin) who do not work when they are capable or the ones who cheat system in any way. I have refused to take those clients who just want to tailor their accounts and tax affairs the way that they could get most of the benefits. My wife of 18 years is a white English west country woman. My question is that I am not worried about myself but are my children still immigrants?

Finally a question that always bothers me. Why is it that countries like Germany, France and others do not attract people either from Eastern Europe or outside Europe but Britain does? Those countries do not have a benefit system? Or do they not let people abuse their benefit system?

Getting off the subject a bit, but I have a friend who was born in Australia who is a third generation aussie from 100% chinese linage. Even now, in his 50s, he is sometimes commended on his perfect English. Why wouldn't he speak perfect English? His parents also speak perfect English.

The truth is that we are all judged by appearance and if we look different from the common population, we are assumed immigrants.
