i wake up sometimes with really bad cramp in my calf whats the best way to deal with it? do you rub your leg or flex and extend your foot till it settles? i know they say it can be a lack of pottasium but i do have a very balanced diet and i dont get if often enough for it to be a worry.
I have the same sometimes and someone once told me you have to brace yourself and point your foot directly up to the ceiling as far as you can. It does work. I find it is hot weather that sometimes starts mine but its not hot weather now so I am not sure. Some say to tilt the bed slightly up at the end, dunno if that is an old wive's tale.
what works for me, is as soon as I feel it coming on to raise my big toe leaving my other toes down, and hold it there until the feeling has gone. This seems to stretch the calf muscle.
I think cramp is just one of those annoying things that happen - doubt it has much to do with diet!
Not sure if this works for everyone, but my husband suffered night cramp until he was advised to drink tonic water. Apparently the quinine in the water gives some relief. Hope it works for you, veritymoon.
i agree with milly, standing up cures cramps in my foot or leg almost instantly. Also, try drinking more water, I've heard dehydration can cause cramps too.
