I don't mind electric cookers, I've used them in holiday cottages and they've been OK. Personally I wouldn't change from Gas, I do a lot of Baking and prefer gas for that
Electric is easier to clean and I have electric hob (halogen) and electric oven. Why not go for a gas hob and electric oven as that seems to be what more people go for these days? I found gas hobs just so difficult to keep clean.
Hardly ever used gas. It's what you are used to I suppose. Always feels a little camp/caravan like using gas, to me. :-) And visions of period dramas and their gas hobs. But either, as you prefer.
Thank you for all your replies Abers, much appreciated.
I have just spent a month in a Aussie, and my sisters electric cooker was fab, and I thought --yes--I'd love one.
Will have a look around one day very soon and see what is on offer.
I still fancy a fan assisted oven!
Thanks again x
Gas hob and electric oven seems to be most popular. Even here in rural areas, where no town gas is available, a common set up is electric oven with a propane (gas bottles) hob.
i personally have used all gas for nearly 20 years and last year i bought a brand new fan assisted electric oven and gas hob and I can't get on with the electric oven. The grill is fine but when i use the oven it takes ages to warm up and everything seems to take longer to cook. it's very frustrating . I would go back to gas given the choice.
it is very much an issue of personal taste and what you are used to. Personally I always use gas hob and electric fan oven and grill. I don't find cleaning an issue it's easy enough to wipe down after you use it. I have used a gas oven in the past but went back to electric. Alot also depends on the quality of the appliance not just wether it's gas or electric, read lots of reviews before you buy.
I have nothing against an electric oven but for the hob give me gas. It is so much more responsive and controllable. Gas is not available where I live now and the electric hob is rubbish for anyone used to gas. I twist the knob to adjust the temperature and the change is far from immediate like it is with gas. It is as if it has to go before a board for approval first. Are you sure you want to turn the bottom left ring up a knotch? Really sure? Absolutely certain? Well then after all the other rings have voted we can consider acting on your request.
Just get a bloody move on or my eggs will be off before they're scrambled.
