A poll of 1,500 women by Ergoflex UK [Who they?Ed. ] reveals that 95 per cent keep their make-up secrets from their partner. I never knew there were make-up secrets, so it must be working. And fully a quarter keep their 'faces' on at night, so as not to frighten their partner in the morning, perhaps, but they say that they don't like to wake up to a natural face.

Just remembered that I once met a young barrister at court and offered her a lift back to her chambers. She was poorly made up, so I got the conversation round to make-up. I diverted to Elizabeth Arden, and told them to give her a complete facial makeover, which I'd pay for. She was so amazed that she had it (I had an unusual way with chat up lines). I chose them because they would give a natural look. They ran true to form. She learnt more in that one session than she ever had and came out transformed. And we remained good and close friends for years after that first encounter. I do think that most women know little about make-up ( just as they do about bra fitting and sizes) but maybe that's just the Gok Kwan in me!

Not many make up secrets to keep. I don't wear make up at home and never have. Wore a bit more when I was younger, but never a huge amount and never any foundation or anything. Now down to concealer, lippy and mascara and a light dusting of pure mineral stuff when I go out. He has hung about with me for 41 years so I can't be that scarey. Have never gone to bed with make up on - yuk!
I'm intrigued! OK - I do think secrets come into play when there is competition (like you are afraid the partner will start using it /stealing it if you tell him about it!) or insecurity (not liking how you look) or vanity. Some men would have heart attacks if they knew what cosmetics cost so I can understand why some women might keep quiet about things or deceive. This would never bother me. In my view make-up is a barrier of a sort and it is not meant to be worn in bed but taking it of is a risk in front of a guy I.
There is alot of pressure on women to look good but it can come more from women and themselves. Men do notice things though (in my opinion).
I gave alot of secrets or tips to a guy once who liked dressing up and there are tricks you use to achieve effects and its an illusion more than anything. (I happen to know alot about it)
A guy did talk to me once about how his girlfriend couldn't be seen without make-up so was always already dressed and made up before he woke up and paranoid about being seen without make-up. I think that was insecurity and she was afraid he would reject her if he saw her for real - I dont think she liked looking at herself without make-up. He had noticed bigtime though so it was not a secret! but he didn't know how to approach it with her. He hated the stuff. If you wear make-up it is hard to stop using it as you can feel ugly without - thats another thing you can forget that you might look better without it or without using as much. I have made up alot of people and I'd say that the majority use too much and look worse for it but they are stuck in a rut and wont listen unless you prove it to them.
I do know one woman who orders (dont laugh) these things on line all the time called frownies - I thought it was rediculous but on the nights she wasn't seeing the guy she would sleep with these things on to make her look good. That was a secret.
Why have secrets only to hoodwink the other person - wanting them to think you look better than you do. I would tell a partner anything they wanted to know if they asked but I would never assume they were interested and might be surprised if they were. The only times I have ever had any man mention make up - I got asked once if my eyes were real! (seriously Fred) but he was drunk at the time. I did study alot around this subject because I wanted to do things

If! I had any make-up secrets I wouldn't keep them from a partner unless he was into stealing make-up tips to look better than me but I would be unlikely to be seeing someone who uses make-up.

Well,ta, brandyrose. Too much is the trouble. In the example I gave, I would never have taken her to Max Factor or the like because she would have emerged looking like a Harrods make-up assistant; fine if you are required to look like that but not normal in daylight . Women do have a tendency to do what they've always done, and that was by trial and,mostly,error and all of it without a second opinion. I see women who are wearing what they wore at 25 and they're 50 but they'd never do the same with clothes.
