I commented on the other thread that it is not at all kind or friendly to put other animals onto the backs of tortoises and turtles. They can't express emotions in the same way that the warm blooded animals do but they have no choice in the matter and feel the weight on their shells (which are alive and sensitive) just as you or I would if someone dumped a heavy weight onto our backs. The other images are lovely though....
Sorry to sound like a killjoy, I keep tortoises and don't like to see them abused in this way.
Woof, I was obviously quoting you. I would never keep tortoises as, apparently, they can't express emotions and I have no way of telling whether they they are happy in captivity.
I said that they can't express emotions in the way that other animals can. If you are going to quote me, please do so accurately.....
Happy tortoises eat and grow at a slow but steady rate. They display normal tortoise behaviour and are in generally good health. In general, they only move quickly when motivated by food or sex. Their default defence is to pull heir extremities into the shell but will struggle to escape from pressure or restraint.
Their enclosure is large, they may not even realise that they are captive....anyway my point is that putting other animals (or indeed other weights on their backs is abusive and not an example of intraspecies friendship.
I used to have tortoises. The one was very responsive and would followme round the garden. Loved to be scratched under her neck and would o swimming with me.
