Recurring Dreams...
28 Answers
I know tales told of other peoples dreams can be boring, please bear with me.
I have a recurring dream where I am in 'my' house (it's not a house i've ever seen but is familiar to me now) and there is another level to the house which needs refurbished but only I enter it.
I know every nook and cranny of this house as well as the 'secret' part.
Even now I could describe this house and its location down to the curtains...I visit it every night in my sleep.
How strange.....does anyone else have a recurring dream like this? It has started to bother me as it seems real now !
What do you think and have you ever ever experienced this type of 'dream' ?

Freud described dreams as the royal road to the unconscious. I agree with the other posters when they say that the level which needs refurbishmen t is a representati on of an aspect of your life which you feel needs attention.

I used to have a regular dream where i go in a gents convenience to have a pee . However the floor of the convenience is covered with poo ; and i have to tip toe between the poo to get to the urinal .
I also used to dream that i go to have a pee , but had the feeling that i could not empty my bladder fully .
I then woke up , bursting to have a pee .
I suppose that is the body's built in subconcious warning mechanism ?

Two, one I haven't had for a while where I'm being chased by something, finally think I've got away and then it rears up in the rearview mirror or back seat of the car I'm escaping in.
One I still get is that I have an exam but I haven't studied and am panicking about it, usually it's something like an important end of year exam and something impossible to catch up for (like a language exam, I used to study languages). I don't ever seem to get to the exam, actually maybe once I can remember, mainly the panic and feelings of letting myself and others down.

i used to have a recurring dream/nightmare when I was a child, I dreamt that i was trapped in a field with a wild horse, the horse would chase me around the field but i could never escape because there was a trench surrounding the field.
This dream carried on until my early teens until I mentioned it to my mum. she told me that when I was young I was playing out in our back garden (which backed onto a field) and i witnessed a vet shooting a horse. I cant remember this actually happening but my mum told me I was quite distraught and upset about it at the time.
Since she told me this I have never had the dream again.

Thanks very much to everyone who took the time to make sense of what I truly thought was a bizarre/senseless dream ! I'm surprised how much houses feature.
The explanations make so much sense. My 'secret' room is on a higher floor, so my sub conscious is telling me I need to kick my own butt and get motivated..very true ! I'm actually quite astounded.
It's amazing how much all our recurring dreams are actually tied into our waking hours.
I shall make an effort to listen to Steve Wright from now on ;) Think I have a new obsession after reading everyone elses posts !

I often have dreams where 'home' is my childhood home (dad's place) and my mum is ALWAYS there (she died over three years ago) and it's not upsetting.. infact it's quite lovely to see her lovely face.. Odd that it's not based here... as I've lived away from 'home' longer than I lived there.... Anyhoo....
