I can't really make my mind up on this one. If 10,000's of 15 years olds are having sex and we can't seem to stop them, perhaps it shouldn't be a crime. But what of the 14 years olds ? Will there be a campaign in another few years to make that the age of consent ?
Mikey we do have an offence of "statutory rape" but we don't call it that. Rape is non -consensual sexual intercourse. We say that someone under age is not capable of giving consent, whether they think they are or not.
That is not to say that someone who uses violence, or fear of it, to have intercourse with a fifteen year-old can say that all they did was have intercourse with an underage girl, of course. They face life imprisonment, just as any rapist of an adult would,
