How nice to see young Tom Daley (finally) coming out of the closet today. Well done and I hope it inspires many young lads to do the same and live 'your' life not in he shadows of society.
Hope so too, Paul. I had an experience today which made me wonder exactly when we do really grow up. Seeing these two threads I guess it's when we can just be gay without having to announce it and be subjected to comment, publicity in this case, and smutty schoolchild "humour"......
As Maydup says, and for me it's shameful that he has to say anything at all in order to stop future speculation and media attention about something that should only concern him.
I also find the interest some folk have in the sexuality of another a little bit worrying....the interest and the smut?? Tells me a lot more about the perpetrator than the subject of the interest....☻
Great thread showing many viewpoints.
My own opinion upon learning that Tom had chosen to make his video today was that the pressure, from the media and society, on the subject of his being homosexual had finally reached a point where he felt he had to 'come out' and put all the gossip and speculation to bed for once and for all. He did it well. The 'I still like girls' line is not underlining any thought of bisexuality but covering the bases for his career, sponsors et al.
As someone said to me once if all gay people stood up on the count of three and did so honestly - the world would be astonished. May we see more sportsmen and women follow his lead.
## No...my partner works in television, and I've met Tom through his involvement in Splash. ##
SP,
Can you ask your partner if he would remind the person responsible for making Splash, how bad the viewing figures were, and how awful the reviews it got?
> For casual acquaintances, it's of less importance.
I'd describe Tom Daley as a less than casual acquaintance so I don't need to know his sexuality, thanks. I certainly don't see it - or anyone else's - as "newsworthy".
he made the video to stop the stupid from posting idiots homophobic comments on facebook, and other sites of disinterest . He said he still likes, fancies girls, so for the moment would be considered bi, good on him i say, no matter his sexuality, he is a great sportsman and a credit to his family.
