Just back from a week on Anglesey and have to report we saw a breeding pair of choughs at rhoscolyn (that's probably spelled wrong) .
We have seen choughs before on previous visits to Anglesey but this pair came as a complete surprise, we were just out for a walk and there they were :)
Had tea and cake every afternoon at the rspb visitor centre at south stack although the chat with the very knowledgeable rspb people there was far better than the cake ( which was delicious ).
The puffins and guillemots were nowhere to be seen unfortunately, and the weather has been too bad for the cameras to be set up for watching them. If they don't manage to get it done in the next week or so it will be too late as it will disturb the nesting.

South Stack is a brilliant place.... we went in mid June and the cliffs were covered in birds...and the sea had thousands more swimming and fishing we saw a few puffins (saw more off Beaumaris on the trip to Puffin Island)

A group of Choughs were doing aerobatics as well as digging for invertebrates and we saw a couple of ravens as well.

The gorse/scrub around the visitor centre was excellent for small birds with a lovely male stonechat showing well. Really recommend a return in June if only to support the cause by eating loads more cake.

We head to Anglesey whenever we can rowan, it's a great place isn't it, my favourite coastline in the whole of the uk, I love the ruggedness, not to mention the birdlife of course.
The rspb lady told us there are about fifty juvenile choughs on the island, as well as the breeding pairs. They're really pleased with the way they're breeding and increasing so successfully.
Our best 'spot' there was a great grey shrike about four years ago, couldn't believe our eyes :)
I doubt we'll manage a visit in June, what with all our other commitments, but I'd love to do a trip to puffin island at some point, in all the years we've been going to Anglesey we've never got round to it.
The cake is, of course, totally guilt free, being for such a good cause!
