Unless this advice was from a fully qualified dietician and you are morbidly obese I would continue to eat one a day. God dam it, eat two.
All fruit (even dried) is good for you. Simple as that.
Bananas are an excellent form of slow-release energy so keep you feeling satisfied for longer. They also give instant energy if you feel in need of a boost.
They are high in serotonin - the feel-good factor, high in fibre to safeguard your bowels, B6 for insomnia and low in cholesterol and fat.
Bananas are also high in potassium - fantastic for gym bunnies and joggers as it helps reduce cramping and helps your muscles to work properly.
Enjoy your banana.

The only reason to not have some fruits is if you are diabetic as there are different absorbtion rates of the natural sugars - most fruit has glucose and fructose.
Just don't have over processed ready meals and the like and you wont be eating unnecessary dextrose, corn syrup and other sweeteners that aren't needed in fresh food.
And as above - bananas are great for more than just 1 thing, so wrong to say avoid unless under strict dieticians advice
