when we were younger, my dad used to make a dessert using jelly and carnation milk, i think i remember him leaving the jelly to half set and then adding the evaporated milk, i cant remember if this is all that he did to it, or if the milk was heated up, does anyone have any ideas as to what it could have been an how i can make it?

Used to love that. That's exactly what you do, no more and no less! Cold ev milk and half set jelly.
that is right but as you add the evaporated milk use electric mixer and mix it till light and fluffy make sure bowl is big enough as it will more than double in quantity. When my mother made it years ago she just had the hand mixer and we used to take turns whipping it as it took a long time. Hope you enjoy.
sorry put that wrong you add the jelly to the evaporated milk straight from tin.
I still quite often make jelly for the Grandchildren (& for our daughters & me too)! I used to use Carnation, but these days use Tip Top as it's less fattening & tastes delish.
This is my Mums recipe:
Melt a quarter of a jelly in a little hot water. Beat a small tin of carnation until it is frothy and thick then add the jelly and beat well. Put in fridge to set.

The thing to remember is to beat it REALLY well or you end up with the jelly settling at the bottom. In the days before electric whisks the family would pass the bowl round the table with everyone having a turn at whisking for perhaps the whole afternoon!
