Perhaps they should feel some sadness for all the boys that Smith is said to have abused instead . Being abused my Smith must be akin to being run over by a large flabby steamroller I should imagine. And why, if the CPS say that he should have been charged with sex crimes 40 years ago, did they, or their predecessors not act ?

Mental anguish does stay with youngsters for life, especially when they are close to you and open up after yrs of trying to bury it!
I wish they could all be strung up and tossed into a ditch.

It stays with you for life, someone I know was abused as a boy - he had been in a childrens home for a while when he was young. Many years later he saw his abuser in the street, he said he was paralysed with fear and so distressed he had to take time away from work. He literally went home and locked the door. His wife knew of the problem and was able to get in touch with someone he could talk to.

There may be some consolation in the fact that the powers that be will act with great zeal to discover the identities of those who aided and abetted this monstrous character.
No stone left unturned, lessons learned, questions must be asked, systemic failures etc etc.
If the powers that be can find Bin Laden then surely they can find a couple of bent ex coppers.
Unfortunately due to alternate waves of cynicism and disgust I'm unable to hold my breath while this goes on.

Both Smith and Saville have one thing in common and its not their predilection for raping young people. Its that everybody seemed to know at the time, including official bodies, but nothing was done.

I appreciate that these events occurred a long time ago and peoples attitudes were different back then, but I simply don't understand how they got away with it for as long as they did. We can only try to understand what those boys went through. They were vulnerable, and abandoned and when they thought it couldn't get any worse, this monstrosity came along and took advantage of them. It revolts me but it didn't revolt people nearly enough 40 years ago to stop it happening.

I hope there is a full enquiry into the Smith affair, as is happening with Saville, and those people that failed those young boys are brought to justice themselves.

Maybe those relatives of both men should examine their minds and stop complaining.....crocodile tears it seems to me.

The behaviour of Smith and Savile must have seemed as repulsive then to some of the people who knew about it as it would to anyone with knowledge of similar crimes if they were happening now.
Admittedly, Smith was a big fish in a small pond but his political opponents could have used the information to their advantage. I can't see why Savile got away with it for so long.

There are plenty of guilty people associated with both Smith and Saville, and I want to see those of them that are still alive, pursued with as much vigour and enthusiasm as the CPS are with all the other celebrities that we see in our courts at the present time. What is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander.
