Microsoft
Forgive me if this had been discussed before but my IT support company has sent a message saying that as Microsoft is withdrawing its support for Windows XP I will have to buy a new computer as it would be cheaper than a new hard drive etc etc. and they could transfer everything to the new pc at a cost of £49.
They add that if I continue to us my existing PC (Windows XP) it would become vulnerable to attack and run very slowly.
Now I'm quite happy with my pc at present and can ill afford an unnecessary replacement, but would have to bite the bullet if these dire warnings are true.
Can any experts advise an old codger, please ?
Cheers. D.

Bibblebub has provided two of many possible links (including one with a post from me).
So I'll keep this simple:
I'm typing this on a Windows XP computer which hasn't had any so-called Windows 'support' for years (because I turned it off). So the withdrawal of that support hasn't exactly got me panicking; I'll be sticking with XP for quite some time yet (as will millions of others around the world).

Sorry to hijack the thread, Buenchico, I too have a laptop running Xp. I only use my laptop for Basic Tools RTI from HMRC (payroll). You say you have turned off the updates from Microsoft/windows. If I were to do this with mine would I still be able to update the basic tools program but not the Xp. I think it may help my laptop to run a little quicker without the updates. I use AVG antivirus if that makes any difference. I am off to bed now but I will look out for a reply tomorrow. Cheers
