Tendon Problem
4 Answers
On Good Friday I had surgery to repair a severed tendon, and last Tuesday I had the cast off, but I still cannot move my big toe. The consultant said I needed an urgent ultrasound scan to find out what was wrong, and he even took it upon himself to visit the relevant hospital that afternoon to ensure an appointment this week. Meanwhile my leg was put in an orthotic boot. Had the scan Friday but when I rang he hospital for an appointment to see the doctor, next available date is 17 June. Tried my surgery but next date to see GP is 19 June. The doctor who performed the scan said the repair was structurally sound, but the tendon could not move because it was stick to some underlying tissue, and I will need treatment to free up the tendon. I now have nearly three weeks to wait before any treatment after my "urgent" scan. As I can't get to speak to a medic, could any of the medics on here advise me as to whether I can safely stop wearing the orthotic boot because the tendon repair is OK? I still, won't be able to drive but at least I might be more comfortable moving around without it. I am already stir crazy from six weeks of enforced inactivity.

From what you have said, the tendon repair was successful, but because of adhesions, the result was unacceptable . Until those adhesions are divided, one cannot see that any further damage can be done by "jettisoning the boot."
