Indesit Tumble Dryer

Hi all, I had a scarey experience yesterday. I have an Idesit Tumble Dryer about 2 -3 years old, and yesterday when I went to take the laundry out I was horrified to find that the plug and socket were burned out. This must have happened during the drying cycle as the clothes were partially dried. Strangely, it didn't trip the electrics in the house, although the dryer itself now doesn't work so the fuse in the plug must have kicked in. Can anyone suggest what on earth might have happened? Also, does anyone know if I would be better to bring in an electrician, or do I need an Indesit engineer for this job? Thanks in advance.

I suggest if you are a compitant person cut off the damaged end of the flex and put on a new plug (not a cheap one) making sure that the screw connectons are tight.

Replace the Socket with a new one if to badly damaged (not a cheap one) making sure all connetions are tight, Turn off the fusebox or consumer unit first.

Explanation is that a loose connection in one of the plug live or neutral wires caused this. That created more heat at the bad connection (because its electrical resistance was higher) and this burnt out the whole plug.
Not a fault with the appliance, and the electrics did not trip because no current overload or earth leakage to ground occurred.
