Depressing, I know, but... After a recent tv program I started wondering.. What do hospitals actually physically do with amputated large limbs like legs, and other organs and tissue removed for disposal..? In other words, how exactly are they physically disposed of ?

mmm interesting..i suppose they get cremated or something...i had a kidney removed and never thougtht to ask. i wonder what they would do if the patient asked to bury their limb..im sure someone has at some point!!
anything like that would be incinerated in a giant furnace for surgical waste.
You can actually keep bits to have a buriel. I remember a women on Richard & Judy who had her leg amputated after 7/7 and had her own buriel for it.
incinerate them, I believe it is the law.

Unless they are retained for medical research or such like.
i knew someone would have buried a limb..would any of you consider this do you think...i wouldnt.
Incineration is required, but if after you pass over you give your body to medical school, the remaining bits are buried by the trainee surgeons with their professor and are treated with the utmost respect
"with utmost respect".

Unfortunately, this isn't the case as we'd all like to believe.

Amputated limbs go in the clinical waste.

This is a true story, do not read if you are of a sensitive nature. I work with amputees. One of them asked me, a month after his surgery, what had happened to his leg. I explained it had gone up in a puff of smoke. 'Pity that', came the reply. 'It's my ex-wife's birthday today, and I would have liked to have sent her it as a present...'

clown tickle & malaise. My mum has requested that her body be given for medical research after her death. The family can have the remains for burial should they request. The cost of a simple burial will be paid for by the researchers.
