When I saw the headlines this morning I had a sharp intake of breath - surely a woman wouldn't 'excuse' rape?
However, having now seen a transcript, what she actually said was (lifted from the BBC website);
"If he does go back, he will have to brave an awful lot of comments," said Finnigan during her debut appearance on the lunchtime programme.
"But, having said that, he has served his time, he's served two years.
"The rape - and I am not, please, by any means minimising any kind of rape - but the rape was not violent, he didn't cause any bodily harm to the person.
"It was unpleasant, in a hotel room I believe, and she [the victim] had far too much to drink.
"That is reprehensible but he has been convicted and he has served his time."
Ultimately she's right, isn't she?
As unpleasant as this man is, he has served his time, and therefore shouldn't he be allowed to continue to pursure his chosen career?
Sorry if I offended you Retrochic, it too wasn't meant nastily, but you had just suggested I had spat my dummy so did rather walk into it:/
Give them a good polish I'm sure we all need one occasionally:)
No problem kvalidir, I'll keep a nice rainbow coloured one for you (it wasn't personal by the way there have been a few dummies flying around today) Take care x
Is that aimed at me DT? If so if you'd like to quote how and where I have been offensive to you I'd be delighted to jolly well apologise. I'd also be delighted though if you didn't presume certain things about me;-)
What an amazing thread.
Here's a true story why I think you need to listen to other people andy.
My point is about sex and alcohol.
A young lad I worked with had to phone his dad to get round to his flat because there was a girl and her mum banging on his door trying to get in.
They were accusing him of raping the girl the previous evening.
The previous evening someone had sex with the girl (apparently against her will) any a massive bust up ensued. A girl thinks she's been rape a man is a cussed of the rape.........not a nice scenario.
How was it resolved?
It turns out the boyfriend of the girl turned up at the party, had sex with his girlfriend and then bugggered off to town. She was too drunk to remember!
I agree with the people who say there are different degrees of rape.
Final word from me on this, I have agreed and disagreed with fellow AB'ers on this prolonged thread but those I haven't agreed with, no hard feelings and look forward to plenty more discussions with you in the future.
