Out of all the shop bought curry sauces available, pataks, chicken tonight, lloyd grossman, etc whats the nicest one????

I really like the Loyd Grossman range, especially the korma.

Patak pastes are good it you are making your own, then Lloyd Grossman, but the best are the Shere Khan range.

for a korma get Asda's own Royal Korma, it's lush :)

You could just go for the halfway option, that is using ready mixed ground spices instead of a paste, and cooking the curry as per the packet. I'm thinking of brands such as 'Shan' or 'Lazeeza'. You can get a whole host of ready ground spices for curries from, Rogan Josh, to Korma and usually you'll just need to add some fresh ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, and yogurt.

The curries from these spices taste authentic, so much so that many asian households use these packet spices to make curries and pass them off as homemade!

You may need to go to an asian supermarket to purchase them, but my local tesco does them. Or you could order online at http://www.simplyspice.co.uk/masalas-curry-mixes-c-8.html

You might find this amusing. I live in the capital of curry cooking in this country - Birmingham and whilst I enjoy the very many Asian restaraunts we have I determined to cook my own from authentic recipes. On one occasion I went to our local Indian supermarket to buy the various ingredients I would need. At the check out the Asian lady taking the money asked "what are you going to do with all this?" I responded rather smugly I am cooking a Roghan Josh. "Oh really" she said "we use this!" and handed me a jar of Petaks paste. Somewhat deflated I left the shop and spent a considerable amount of time on my 'authentic' creation, which was okay. Next time I chose the Petaks and in less time I produced a dish our local take away would have been proud of. I've never looked back.
