Trouble With Laptop

When I switch on my computer, it automatically goes to something called "super optimizer", which apparently is checking my PC for viruses, and I am unable to open any web pages, without pop-ups and adverts appearing all over the place. I didn't use to have this problem until I updated my McAfee Security around Christmas time. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful if you could explain what to do in REALLY simple terms, as I'm not too good with anything technical. Thanks in advance.
