I am shortly to be fitted with an upper denture and would like to consider having a cobalt chrome plate rather than a plastic plate. Can any ABer please advise on the relative costs between the two. The treatment will be carried out privately and I would appreciate some indication of what I may be committing myself to before I speak with the dentist. Many thanks.

Costs are going to vary between individual dentists, practice location and individual clinical needs. However a rough guide is that a cobalt chome denture will cost approximately twice that of an acrylic denture due to both the increased clinical time needed and increased laboratory costs.

You may be looking at £200-600 (acrylic) or £300-800 (chrome) as an estimate, and your dentist should give you a written quotation before you start any treatment.

The practice website may have a price guide so that you know roughly what you need to budget for in advance.

i have a back molar that's more fillinmg than tooth and the filling bit fell out. I then got an infection in it. As i am on alendronate and tocilizumab and pred for years, the dentist referred me to the hospital and i was seen by the consultant. He said he didn't want to take it out unless he absolutely had to as i was high risk for osteonecrosis, but referred me back to my dentist for a root canal and to file the tooth down to gum level. My nhs dentist tells me that as a partial root canal has been attempted before, she can't do it and will need to refer me to a specialist for RC treatment (although she reluctantly offered to "give it a go"!)
is there an NHS alternative? I can't afford the private treatment and the usual NHS treatment to RC would be an extraction, but i can't have that! Where do i go now?

hi malana - I am gettig a titanium plate in April and as far as I am aware mine will be £1,600 for holding 4 front teeth.
