I have had this problem a couple of times lately, it was just like my thumb had been cut with a razor and had vinigar rubbed in it. I now think I have pinpointed the cause after the 2nd time and put it down to strong deturgents, it occurred each time that I shampooed the dog, so next time its on with the rubber gloves. If that was not the cause, it sure did'nt help matters.
Recommend Diprobase cream which was recommended to me by another AB user. You can get it over the counter at the chemist ..about three pounds a tube.Brilliant stuff. It's an emollient and has no lanolin and forms a barrier on the skin.It certainly cleared my red itchy hands and what I call spud peelers thumbs.I used to get these nasty cracks on the sides of my fingers but they have all cleared up since using this.
Diprobase, definitely, as Shaneystar has said. It is cheap, very effective and is used by the medical professional in hospitals for hand washing as well. You can get it in huge pump containers for about 10.00 and it will last for months. As Shaney says as well as being a moisturiser it is also a barrier.
