I tend to like tinned fish. Good on toast. But don't recall Tesco own brand to comment on the taste. But as for when it swam, not that important is it, the tinning process ensures very slow deterioration.
I always buy Tesco's own brand mackerel and eat it at least 3 times per week with salad. Never found anything wrong with it and, imho, it is much better than some others. Prefer it in teriyaki sauce rather than plain old tom sauce, though.
Hi Prudie....Of all tinned fish, Mackerel is the very one that I would avoid. In fact I even avoid fresh Mackerel because it is regarded as a scavenger that will eat anything and, in inshore waters, is found in abundance around sewer outfalls. You don't need bait to catch them from an open boat; just throw overboard a line with a few hooks and you'll certainly catch a few in a matter of minutes.
can I mention - I love fish food -but when you see more and more and more of those poor people drowning - the fish have to eat - so what are we eating - dead flesh. just a thought
