I do feel it is importance for both males and females to know how puberty/periods etc have an effect that is far more than just the mechanics of the body.

And the girls were taught about periods in sex education. Maybe the boys should join the classes...

Thank you all for some very interesting answers. I think that it is quite clear that some males are embarrassed by the subject & really quite reluctant to talk about it. I feel that as it is basically the source of all human life ( egg production & fertilisation ) it should be freely discussed between boys & girls & should be made very clear what females have to put up with on a regularly monthly basis. Maybe just maybe some blokes would be a little more sympathetic.
