Lucky People
19 Answers
Do you believe in luck do you believe some people are naturally more lucky than others?
i know there is a case for saying you make your own luck by working hard etc but i know of people who never get a break with anything despite working every hour God sends while others seem to get everything handed to them on a plate
Not complaining i neither count myself particiularly unlucky or lucky was just wondering how it all works is it all purley random or is there another force at work :)

Lucky I take five two week holidays a year, have a house that is almost paid for, my own car, no money worries etc. when I tell people that I have gone without an awful lot in the past to be in my present condition they look at me as if I've grown two heads. I do believe in luck to a certain extent, but yes - you really do make your own luck in this life
"Believe in", is difficult to either qualify or quantify. Personally, even though I can use the term in a phrase from time to time, I recognize I don't believe in luck at all. It is, to me, a generalistic term applied to specific events or series of events. I'm no more "luckier" than the next person, yet there are aspects of my life that are more comfortable than my neighbors... but, importantly, "vice versa" comes to mind when I consider a comparison with that same neighbor...
I win something on the Prem Bonds every month and I've won loads of other things e.g. tv, dvd recorder, hampers, money, vouchers, kitchen equipment, raffles, tombolas, a trip in a hot air balloon for 2, tickets for concerts etc., case of wine, case of champagne, radio times competitions,. CHAT competitions,... I win things every month. Yesterday, I won a large box of Paul Mitchell Hair products. I don't even think I'm particularly lucky.
Most of the pubs/clubs in my area run twice weekly 'bonus ball' sweepstakes, based obviously, on the Wed and Sat Lotto. I used to have a friend who would enter all of these sweepstakes and whatever 2 or 3 numbers he managed to get on in the first place he visited, he would try to get the same numbers in the other places, quite often with success. He would win at least once a month, visit each drinking hole in turn and picking up his £49 at each one. On the one hand, you could say he was lucky; on the other, he made his own luck by entering each and every sweepstake.
Yes, some people are lucky - I am not one of them. My older daughter is, however, and from a young age I let her pick the Tombola tickets etc. - she always came back with a prize and I never did. I have held Premium bonds almost from their inception and never won - I believe that the odds against my winning nothing in all that time are astronomical! (A maths. friend worked it out). My mum regularly won £25. I tried the lottery for a couple of months - but what are the odds against never getting more than 3 matching numbers? I gave that up, fast. So, gambling is not one of my vices, unless it's the occasional (2 x a year) horse race where I can look at horse, form and going; then I quite often win!
Equally unlucky in life in many ways, not that it matters as I'm happy with the way things worked out. Things like opportunities becoming available just when you've moved past that stage etc.. Yes, some folk are lucky and honest hard grind doesn't have anything to do with it.
