You will get garlic bulbs as Retrochic says .. the only issue is that most of the garlic you buy in the supermarket comes form abroad and may be more suited to warmer climates than ours. So it is a good idea to buy a couple of bulbs suited to our climate. That more or less guarantees you success.
One other point is that garlic is best planted in autumn and grown through the winter ... apparently it stores better. But who knows, I have around 30 in the ground planted last October and another 10 planted in March this year. They are very easy to grow in plant pots and like free draining soil.
When you have got the garlic bulbs from the ones you have planted, save a few bulbs to plant again, this way you create your own line of bulbs that are suited to your soil.
