a) You defragment your hard drive before editing/rendering and always restart your machine beforeediting (see f) below)
b) If possible, use a second hard drive just for the video files (nad set it within the video program along with the temporary storage locations)
c) You really need a fast processor and a much Ram as you can afford.
d) Make sure that you have the latest audio and video drivers.
e) Check their website for updates/patches - especially if there are any referring to synchronisation problems.
f) Lastly, shutdown any programs running in the background (even ant-virus etc - but restart your machine before going back on the Web)

If you are considering other programs look for Adobe Premiere Elements (NB version 2 only works with the latest processors, Pentium 4 and AMD 64-bit (?)). There is an new version of Serif's MoviePlus coming out soon (version 5) - I use version 4 and it is very good. One or two computer magazines seem to like Sony Vegas Movie Studio - there is a supplier here:-
