Macular Hole
2 Answers
Hi! Can anyone out there explain simply why when an eye operation for a macular hole was successful and the hole closed, I still have the distortion which was the original symptom. The consultant is very pleased with the outcome and says everything has gone how it should and I have been discharged from his care. I did ask him this question and he did explain but not sure I understood. (I know I should have asked again but I was still trying to take in what he'd said) Thanks !

It was lasered but it was explained to me that it was like a sock that was darned - it may be a very good repair but can't be as good as the original. The sight in that eye is distorted but does not cause any problems as the other eye takes over.
Thanks! That sounds easier to understand! It is 8 weeks since I had my op and although my good eye compensates for the distance distortion, it's not as good when reading or doing close up work. I've been told there will be little if any improvement in this so I will have to adjust to it! Thanks again.
