I do not feel the need to socialise, I'm not bothered whether people like me or not, and I don't need lots of friends or acquaintances.

Gavmacp, that is exactly my problem. My grandparents were big talkers, but my mum wasn't. I remember many awkward coffee mornings when I was young and people were desperately trying to make conversation with my mum. She just didn't know how to chat, for some reason, and so nor do I. Strangely, my sister is a big chatterer too. Something went wrong with me and my mum, and it's been the bane of my life.

My parents mainly rowed when I was younger so not great talkers, but shouters yes, also I do remember as a child whenever there were visitors to the house, we were made to go to our room, not blaming the way I am on that, but dont think it helped, and yes I am quite happy the way I am, I have 2 good friends one I get on better with than the other, but it suits me fine we dont live in each others pockets, but we keep in contact.
Fruitsalad,
If you are happy that is great. Sometimes the past is just better left in the past. I went tinkering with my past with an idiot of a hypnotherapist, said leave it alone until I am ready to deal with it he didn't! Went off sick from work and then had to resign.
