Transferring Program files etc

If I were to buy a new computer, how do I keep all my programs/files etc and transfer them to the new unit. Do I need an external hard drive to move them all to?

Windows Media Player

If I were to install WMPv10, could I re-install v9 if I get any problems, because I've heard that v10 can cause some problems. Many thanks in advance!

Downloading to mobile phone!

Why is it that I can download some music tracks to my mobile phone to use as ringtones, but some music tracks are impossible to transfer?  I have a Motorola V635i.  Many thanks in advance.
