I applied for a job with royal mail, they did a secutity check on me, and now i've got no job. How long does a criminal record last for? (GBH sct. 18, sentenced 3 yrs, served 1yr with 1 yr probation)....

My partner has been told today that he is lookinmg at a minimum sentence of 6 years if he doesn't get an ipp. I think that this is a bit harsh especially as this was proven too be 1 blow to the head...
