Black and White Photo - What colour???!!

Can anyone tell me a way of finding out the colour of bridesmaids dresses on a black and white photo? I know there is a way as it's been on TV when they have coloured old b & w celluloid etc...

Really only use my laptop for internet and the odd letter these days but it running very slowly .... should I take unwanted programs (like phone software and itunes etc) off it? Will this speed it up...
