Sorry Corby.......I must have lost interest, but not on purpose.

A decade ago, or more, AB was "buzzing" posts were abundant in all sections , fights would go on throughout the night and one could pick up the threads in th morning.
Same ABers, same topics and the women were as bad as the men.......but AB was flourishing.
Over a period of about 6 months there was discontent among certain "neutral" ABers who objected to many of the confrontational posts and there then seemed to be a purge and many , almost all males were banned ( I was one of them). There, at that time there was a group of female ABers that "ruled".....you were with them or against them which instigated many of the fights.

Now, at that time there ws a change in management and a coup developed as mentioned above and the "troublemakers" were identified and ousted, their opponents mainly females remained. In my opinion, the baby ws thrown out with the bathwater and the placenta was kept.
From that time on, AB started to deteriorate and an oppsition site was started which didn't take off and closed down.
That is my take on the obvious decline of AB.

I was around throughout that. Not as I remember things.
I certainly would single out ABs women members for blame. I reckon it is down to nastiness and bullying, making the experience unpleasant. That got much worse in 2016 and since.

Gromit...I respect your differing experiences, but in my opinion, bullying was much worse then, than it is now, todays bullies are powder puff bullies compared with the bullies of yesteryear.

I hate to say it, but I think AB is on its way out. It just doesn't work any more. Times have changed. For the worse in my opinion. Shame, because in many respects I'm still quite fond of it.

Facebook is rubbish now and I don't use twitter. I actually spend quite a lot of time on line to real friends, who don't even know this site exists.

Too many arguments and snide remarks aimed at provoking people. It not the site I thought it was, a question and answer site populated by peope who may be able to give sound advice. It just seems like a private chat club for the retired or maybe bored stay at home mums. I really don't know where the advertising could be targeted from other than Saga type sites . Other similar sites such as Silversurfers have chat rooms but also informative articles, offers etc. Maybe that is the way to go but I'm afraid anyone under the age of 40 is not going to be attracted.

1. I seriously think that ab hasn't kept up to date with technology

2. Has been through long periods of bad management.

3. Needs to get to grips with the moderating system. And needs a weekend editor.

4. Needs to fix the advertising problems.

5. And needs help from someone who knows how to make money.

To me it feels like is being run by amateurs who haven't been keeping tabs on problems or finances.

Perhaps a management planner is needed!

The accusations of libation are quite ironic since I remember a certain person opining that she didn't think a bottle of wine a night was excessive and another recently posted about having a whole bottle of wine to herself.

I would never ever drink a whole bottle or wine in one sitting (well, maybe in my younger days) or drink every night of the week. I never have more than two glasses now - certainly not enough to alter my judgement - and never ever drink if I have to drive the next morning.

Anyway, more importantly, I wholeheartedly agree with you, Bobbi. There are people on here with whom I will never see eye to eye and I am perfectly happy to ignore them and their posts but the gesture is seldom reciprocated. One cannot complain about digs when one is permanently holding a shovel.

There will always be differences of opinion, particularly where politics is involved, but it is the gang mentality of the AB Bella Mafia on here that's destroying this site. Moaning about "newbies" being put off is one thing and whether they're actually new or not is debateable, but it is an irrefutable, incontrovertible and undeniable fact that long-term valuable contributors are leaving this site in their droves.
