Auntypoll - Any action by any Mod has to have a reason attached to it.

If the Ed and Team decide a deletion or closure is inappropriate,  they can, and do, reverse it.

Mods that abuse their position and delete or close without good reason don't retain their position.

I know you think any Mods delete and close to suit their personal agendas, that is simply not true.

It may happen once, possibly twice to be certain,  and then Mod rights are removed.

//When a mod is on a thread that is not going their way, so subsequently close the thread or delete comments that's wrong//

We've all seen it happen, but as I said, it doesn't last long.

Let's just examine that comment from a Mod:-

"The Editorial Team - the only people whose opinions matter to me at all - seem happy, and that's really all I need." [my italics]

So that Mod's sole motivation is to keep his Masters happy, which implies no care at all for the contributors which is their spouted role. No doubt he will argue the two are synonymous, but do we believe that?

Canary, I really couldn't care less if you, whoever you think you speak for, believe it or not.

I have spent hours defending myself and my fellow Mods from nasty snide attacks from people like you.

So I do my best, and if you think I am not worthy of a little basic respect and courtesy for trying to help the site run smoothly,  then I am genuinely past caring.

This is my final post on this tedious boring offensive ungrateful nasty snide type of post.

I will continue to do my best, and you and the rest can think and say what you please.

I am done trying to explain and reason with the endless whingers and moaners like you.

Moan all you like you don't deserve the care and time and effort Moderators put in for you.

So take your ungrateful carping and sniping somewhere else, you will never hear another word from me on the subject of how spiteful and spoiled and ungrateful you and your coven are.

You don't deserve my time and patience,  and you have had the last of both.

So that Mod's sole motivation is to keep his Masters happy

and why not? Mods aren't paid, and all they get is abuse - mainly, as far as I can see, for doing their job. Amazingly, they have no duty of care at all toward "contributors". Unhappy posters might remember that their presence here is not actually compulsory.

//I can well remember a certain mod. I will not name her .Who actually closed a thread then re-opened it to reply then closed it again//

Me too Gulliver, but apparently the mod was chastised accordingly so hasn't made the same mistake twice.

And your point is?

//This is my final post on this tedious boring offensive ungrateful nasty snide type of post.//

Are you sure of that Andy?

I've never understood why anyone could be so precious, self-important and arrogant enough to want to be a mod, or, in a wider world, a censor. What makes somebody think they know better, are better, than anyone else? ðŸ˜”

Err, umm, ego🙄

Plus a desire to make the world a better place 😇

One user used to complain tirelessly about biased moderation, sometimes on a daily basis and now she's been made one is just as bad if not worse 😂 . Volunteer Moderation  is welcomed for spam posts and a valuable addition to a small forum, but deleting regular users posts for minor infringments is both inflammatory and petty, often personal. This forum has become tedious and boring, and I suspect many contributors just keep posting to keep the site from folding, a bit like supporting your local pub despite it serving crap beer. My advice to the editors if they still exist, is take a long look at your T&C's, bring them into the 21st century and most definitely cull the 'secret mods' which gives Carte Blanche to those mods who want to be vindictive and petty under the cloak of anonominity. All mods should have a badge under their user name too.

Long before the Eds decided that all new mods must be known, like me, the 'secret' mods were moderating posts behind the scenes.

It seems to me that all this carping and complaining has exacerbated since ABers could identify the mods - people have a known target to aim at.  Maybe they should have remained secret?

Don't forget we moderators ARE moderated - by the Eds.  We do get guidance and we don't make the rules.

Auntypoll, I totally agree with you.We are constantly being treated like naughty children in school. No doubt some mods will say if we didn't act like children then we wouldn't be treated as such but who are they to tell us how to act?  If this site is so well run why are the mods here almost on a weekly basis, defending themselves?

^^ If you hadn't posted that barry, i wouldn't have known you were a mod . ðŸ˜„

//So that Mod's sole motivation is to keep his Masters happy, which implies no care at all for the contributors//

I don't see it that way at all, canary. The Mod is a volunteer not a paid employee/servant or a slave. It's the owner's site and ultimately the owner decides how it should be run. It makes sense to make it attractive to use, but again that's up to the owner. Other sites are available or people can set up their own rival sites if they wish.

I don't always agree with the moderation, by the way, and I sometimes let Ed know. I think the site would be a lot worse without them though as let's face it, the Eds are hardly ever around- I feel it's just one of their business interests (may not even make a profit depite being run on a  shoestring) and they just look in occasionally

Auntypoll, hard to believe someone new to the site is so familiar with its history.  Odd how anonymity is acceptable in some instances.  That aside, for the record my views haven't changed.   I've never agreed with secret modding and still don't but realistically, with the amount of vitriol named mods encounter, who can blame the rest for remaining unidentified?  And harsh critics like you merrily but unwittingly rubbing shoulders with them every day too.  Funny old world.  ðŸ˜‚

Khandro, it's all there in the Ed's blog if you care to read it

AH: "Mods that abuse their position and delete or close without good reason don't retain their position. " - raving mod (TCL) closed a valid CB post because he thought it was news. Then squirmed when told and then deleted all the evidence. Then he boobed by giving his name away. That should all be reinstated. He then ignored other posts pointed out because they where his friends. That is clear evidence of bias.

Vulcan, I have the greatest respect for you so a serious question.  Would you prefer mods to talk to members before deciding on the best action or would it be better if they just acted silently every time?  I thought people wanted interaction with mods but I'm beginning to suspect I'm wrong.

Probably better to just act than advise, Naomi.

Auntypoll: "....most definitely cull the 'secret mods' which gives Carte Blanche to those mods who want to be vindictive and petty under the cloak of anonominity. All mods should have a badge under their user name too." - yes bang on get rid of secrcy and have some sort of indicator that the person is a mod.

FWIW I mostly support the mods and the good work they do, any site like this need volunteers and we should be grateful. I have of course volunteered my own services several times but that's another story....If I did ever become one I'd make that clear in my avatar until the site gets round to adding some sort of badge.
