Allergy sticky ears in dog

Hi there. My two year old Weimaraner GSP cross boy has being diagnosed will allergy problems. The main symptom is inflamed ears which then become dirty and sticky. We are working with the vet who is excellent but the steroid tablets which helped at first have stopped being effective at a dose which is acceptable in terms of side effects for the dog. The next stage is to try a topical steroid spray which we will start on monday. We have cleaned up his diet which has helped a lot but not solved the problem. We have also tried
Canaural drops (the thick yellow ones)
Thornit powder
We currently use ear cleaning solution made from boracic and lactic acid to clean his ears (at vets suggestion) plus the steroid tabs and evening primrose oil capsules, again at vet's suggestion.
has anyone else had experience of this and can you make any suggestions please?
He has bare, not hairy ear canals and is as good as gold about the twice daily cleaning and treatment.

Blowing a gale here and chucking it down .I doubt I'll be leaving on a jet plane today .

Neither have I Woof!! (showered). Blowing a Hooley and chucking it down. Have just phoned Mr LL and asked him to bring in the one item I need for tonights meal (cornflour). No way am I going out in this. I am going to town tomorrow anyway.

Am shortly going to shower and then am going to tackle some sorting out of clothing.

Megs is still asleep on our bed, on her back with her legs up in the air!!!!

I have just put the heating on!!

No rain for ages and then this. I made Meg go out for a wee, she rushed out, rushed in and went straight back to our bed. Can't say I blame her!!!
I went as far as the dust bins then took a walk down the drive to inspect the ditch at the front. My outing for the day!! But I am showered and dressed now ;o)

soooo cold here today. Nipped out to do a few errands and left the boys indoors as they haven't been alone for quite a while and it does them good to keep up the habit. Then we had really early dinner cos I missed lunch and I think an early night is on the cards too.

I have a piece of brisket cooking slowly in red wine, onions, carrots etc. Will have mash, cabbage and yorkshire puds. A real winter dinner. I can't thicken it until Mr LL gets home with the cornflour.

It's really cold here too as well as being really wet. It's quite a novelty this rain - I had forgotten what a lot of rain is like!!

We had meat and potato pie, red cabbage and peas and carrots and gravy, as we are running out of food cos we were busy on Sat!!!

i had a pizza and the dogs had chicken on account of the cheese...then I ate a bag of cadburys mini eggs with the sugar coats.

We had scraps from yesterday .Cold schnitzels ,salad and kohlrabi .
Apples fried in honey and brown sugar with ice cream and crumbled ginger biscuits on the top .
It's foul here .Hasn't stopped raining all day and still blowing a gale .On that note I'm off to watch teevee with a stiff drink .

Am off to bed very shortly. Just going to load the dishwasher and make a loaf - well just shove in the breadmaker actually.

Mr LL is already tucked up and sound asleep. Meggie has just come down again and finished her dinner, gone for a quick wee and back to bed!! She has slept up there all day!!! Alice cat is watching A Question of Sport!!

my mum used to do the apples in honey and sugar, but that was in the days before tooth decay and obesity... both of which I have in great measure. I wonder if there could be any connection?

The reason I fry them Jno .My teeth wouldn't stand the shock of biting into an apple these days .
