Hi there. My two year old Weimaraner GSP cross boy has being diagnosed will allergy problems. The main symptom is inflamed ears which then become dirty and sticky. We are working with the vet who is excellent but the steroid tablets which helped at first have stopped being effective at a dose which is acceptable in terms of side effects for the dog. The next stage is to try a topical steroid spray which we will start on monday. We have cleaned up his diet which has helped a lot but not solved the problem. We have also tried
Canaural drops (the thick yellow ones)
Thornit powder
We currently use ear cleaning solution made from boracic and lactic acid to clean his ears (at vets suggestion) plus the steroid tabs and evening primrose oil capsules, again at vet's suggestion.
has anyone else had experience of this and can you make any suggestions please?
He has bare, not hairy ear canals and is as good as gold about the twice daily cleaning and treatment.
thanks

brrr, woke at 4 and I would normally get back to sleep quickly but instead I started sneezing to beat the band and that's woken me up good and proper, runny nose, coughing, the lot. It isn't a cold, something's just set me off. Fortunately OH was sleeping in the spare room (had some 3am tasks to do), so at least only one of us was woken.

So now I am filling in time while I wait to get sleepy again. Maybe I should take someone's dogs for a walk.
Morning, just done the weekly shop, and mr n is off to doctors. Am off for a walk to try to cheer myself up!
Morning all...bright, sunny, blue skies, slightly frozen & frosty but no wind, I can cope with this, it's lovely. (We had wall to wall sun yesterday but the wind was biting).

Now, do I wash me barnet and wait for it to 'air' :o) before I go out...or just zhuzh it a bit and hope no one notices? I know, I'll wear a mini skirt to cause a distraction, in this weather with my knees it should be interesting.

morning all. I had a really wakeful night last night...you know when it feels like you've drunk a gallon of coffee, which I hadn't. Anyway its a beautiful day today so the garden awaits, also my get ready jobs for Graham, the MWD tomorrow. Did I tell you I noticed yesterday that my bedroom curtain rail is pulling out of the wall? I can't think that it has been like it long, just not sure how it happened...I wonder what else I haven't noticed.
lol woofy, I looked up and saw a hefty cobweb yesterday...it didn't get to be that big overnight :o)
Most of my curtain rails are hanging by a thread.
Gone cooler here, now 13º, brrr! Doc saysMr N's edema is still red but improving! Thinks it was a reaction to paprika!!
Hello all
Lovely day here . Bit on the chilly side but big improvement on yesterday .

I've been on my hands and knees scrubbing under the sink .There must be a leak somewhere.Everything was awash and my Fairy soap was all soggy .Have to wait now to put the dishwasher on to see if it's coming from there ,which I think it is .Tut ...I fully expect this place to fall down round my ears anytime soon . Always something going wrong lately .
Hope you are all OK .
Snap, same here shaney, I don't actually know this house is still standing!
oh dear, neti, does that mean he's going to be having to look at ingredient lists for any mention of paprika, like people who avoid anything that might have a trace of nuts? That sounds really tiresome.

does the doc think it was a one off or something that will be with him forever? I did the awash under the sink thing a few weeks ago, it turned out that the U bend connector had loosened a bit and it had been oozing for a while. Am taking a job break...we had scampi and chips for lunch and dinner is in the slow cooker, back to it in a minute.
evenin all..it's been glorious here but apart from a bit of shopping I can't say I've made the most of it, I'm just too tired.

Neti 13º isn't 'brrr', 1ºC, which it was first thing here, is brrrrrrrr. I'm glad Mr N's on the mend...isn't paprika what Pierce Brosnan (forgotten his charater name) was allergic to in Mts Doubtfire? ...haha, I'm so cultured.

hello all, today i have: tidied out my shed helped by Shughy whose idea of help is to sit down in the middle of the pile of leaves and dirt that I have just swept up, potted up 5 bare root hardy hibiscus, phoned the investment company who have got my savings and asked stupid questions and got helpful answers, phoned my bank's call centre and got a sweet lad called Kevin on his first day and I was his first call!, got ready for MWD tomorrow, played with the dogs in the sunshine, made turkey stoo for dinner. when I emptied the wardrobe I found that one shelf fastening is pulling out of the wall as well :-(

Oight oight all.....
I had part deux of last night's sleep between 9am and 1pm, so goodness knows when I'll be tired tonight.
Well it isn't the dishwasher so I dunno.Tightened up all the bits that I could see that I thought may need tightening .I think it's an elf that comes out at night and does these things just to annoy me .
I'll have to consult my personal plumber Picky.
Just watched Prisoners Wives .I was on the edge of me seat .I hope they do another series .
I would stay up and keep you company Jno but it's chilly here and my bed and book are calling .Oight Oight lovelies .Sleep toight.

simple bodgers trick that might help Shaney is to tear up something old and cottony or j cloths into strips and tie them around the joints. Leave overnight and feel them the next day. Any damp ones are wrapped around leaks!!

and again she hits submit too soon. its cold and blowing a hooley here. Dogs had a lovely run around then cold turkey stoo on their breakfast. I have just had hot strong coffee with gingerbread syrup in it.
Good morning everyone. Huge thunderstorm during the night, lovely listening to it, except I couldn't get the outside blind down on one of the bedrooms, cos it's all knotted up, bah! Still no water leaked in through the windows.

Thanks for reminding me about Prisoners wives, I thought it had finished lamely at Ep 4 cos my site has stopped it (must be due out on dvd soon) so have managed to get last two eps form another site.

Sunny outside the window now.
Morning all
Raining and dull here .Looks as if it's set in for the day .
Thanks for the tip Woofy .I did put an old towel on the shelf and this morning it's damp at the back so there is a leak . It's hard for me to see exactly where.
My knees are singing to me today from kneeling there yesterday .
It's only on one side towards the back .Poo to it .
Hope you are all OK and that Mr N is feeling better .Glad you managed to get PW Neti .It was really good .
See you later .
