Frankie's been shot.

My gorgeous ginger tom Frankie became ill and listless last night, so trip to emergency vet. Kept in over night and given pain killing injection and antibiotics. No better this morning. Very high temperature which wouldn't come down, so this afternoon he was sedated and x-rayed, and an air rifle pellet was found lodged in the wall of his abdomen. Fortunately it appeared to have missed his vital organs. He was operated on this afternoon to remove the pellet which had set up an infection. Latest news, he has survived the operation but is still very ill. So will be staying at vets for the time being. The police are going to collect the pellet from vets so that they can identify the type of air-rifle used. Hoping for a full recovery, but the worrying thing is there are small children who live next door, plus other pets around our small, rural, and very quiet cul-de-sac. How sick can some people be, it's beyond me. Some hooligan on the loose with an air-rifle is scary, and I hope for the animals and childrens sake that the person responsible is soon caught.

I have been keeping your little Frankie girl in my thoughts, she was so lucky to find a home with you. I will tell Big Frankie (when he's better) that your little Jack has been praying for him.
Thanks for such a lovely message. Much love to Jack and the whole family. xxx Schutz.

Bensmum. I am so sorry to hear that Flossie had a stroke on Thursday. You must be so upset, it's so painful when our pets are poorly. I hope she comes through it, and I shall be praying for her to recover. Please keep me updated on how Flossie is. And of course how you are as well. Much love. Schutz.
Have been thinking about you and Frankie today Shutzengel. Thank you for taking the time to keep us all updated. As swedeheart says, I'm sure it was a comfort for Frankie to hear your voice today and to feel your touch too. So many of us are willing his recovery back to full health and if love can make that happen then, with all the love coming his way from this thread, he has every chance.
I look forward to your update on his progress on Monday.
In the meantime...
More love to you both ♥ ♥ ♥

Hello Schutzengel. I've just read on another thread that some of Frankie's injuries were worse than first thought? So very sorry to hear this, but whilst the little one's sleeping a lot, his pain and distress isn't so bad. The medication'll be doing this, no doubt, so here's hoping that in a couple of days, you'll start to see an improvement in him. All the best. x
We all know our selves when you dont feel well sleep is the best thing, so sleep will be helping frankie, and hearing mums voice and feeling your gentle touch would have been such a tonic to him, this is probably going to sound really daft, especially to the vets/nurses, but could you do a tape recording of your voice talking to frankie and let them play it from time to time, if it works for humans in comas why not our pets while in vets cages, just to let them know your there.......keep us posted on young frankie....in my prayers frankie...love mary xxxxxxx
Madaboutcats your post reminded me of when my cat had had an operation (many years ago, she's no longer with me) and when I came to pick her up the vet's scrub shirt was there in the cage with her. The vet said it was calming. In a way I doubted that it would be calming to not only smell a human smell but surgery smells as well but in another way I trusted that vet a lot, I'm sure she knew what she was talking about. I suppose it's the risk of infection that stops them from asking pet owners to bring their own blankets and things.
Bensmum not to highjack Frankie's thread but I hope Flossie is recuperating...?

Paddywak. I had a quick peep on here early this morning, and saw your messages. I was about to reply to you as of now, but discover that there's only the one message which said all your messages came through at once. The other two have disappeared, so it seems you are still having trouble. But I had read them this morning, and loved the one about if I didn't let Frankie be the boss, you would send your GSD around to bite my bum. :-)
It looks as if you'll have to have another word with the Tech people. Best wishes. Schutz.

Hello again everyone. Just to let you all know that there haven't been any 'phone calls from the vet today, so presume all is going as well as expected today. They didn't ask me to telephone them today, but to contact them tomorrow. So keeping fingers, toes, and everything crossed for better news tomorrow. Thanks again to all of you, as I know for sure that I would have found the past few days really, really difficult, if it hadn't been for your continued support. Will report in tomorrow. Much love to everyone. Sheila.
BrightSpark. Thank you for your good wishes. And yes I shall probably be very distressed when I get the bill from the vets. I think it's going to be a very big one. In answer to your question, no Frankie is not insured, as he can't be accepted for insurance as he has epilepsy, which will be with him for the rest of his life. Happy to say that under normal circumstances before this disaster, his medication works really well, and he behaves just like a normal cat, and is up to all kinds of mischief. I'll be glad to see him back to living the good life he had before. Thanks again, and my best wishes. Schutz.
